Dewar Studios?? Iv heard they are a scam!!!?

Question

I have been in contact with a model agency in central london that want me to join their books and they will help me with my model portfolio...at an expensive price which has put me off straight away.
The website looks really strange and I have had very bad comments from people in the industry to stay away as they ripp people off and give them false promises.
They pose as a studio and an agency but I dont know what I should do help please????

I've never heard of that agency and they are not accredited by the Association of Model Agents http://www.associationofmodelagents.org/… or the Association of Model and Talent Agencies http://amta.org.uk/index.php?option=com_… but it's against the law for any agency in the UK to charge upfront fees, and an agency cannot take ANY fees until 30 days after you have signed a contract. I would never deal with any agency that asks you for money out of pocket. No legitimate agency will ever ask you to pay them for photography. If you need a portfolio you always pay the photographer directly and any agency should have a list of at least 5 recommended photographers if they are recommending one to you. Otherwise you should be free to use the photographer of your choice

MODELS BY DEWAR aka Westbourne Studios aka Dewar Studios

At least 10 complaints received from models that have completed assignments but have not been paid or have had deductions made that have not been agreed beforehand.

Photo packages are of poor quality and some have not been received despite having been paid for.

Models by Dewar Ltd was incorporated on 11 may 2009 and dissolved on 18 May 2010. The director took herself off the appointments of the Company. No other companies exist with this name.

There has been (at the time this report was received) no reply from Dewar to questions regarding non-payment of models or non-arrival of photo packages.

where do i start? first of all if all if you are so discontent with services provided or not provided why do you not post your names below and not sit behind your computers in the safety of being anonymous. All that says is that not only are your allegations false, but also that you are now in breach of contract due to the fact that if you have worked at Dewar you would have been asked to sign a non disclosure for all the ones (and im sure that is 99% of you) that means you can not disclose any dealings with in or around the company.  This is now called breach of non disclosure, and for the ones that have actually worked at Dewar you would of had to sign in addition to the non disclosure but also a contract which if you take a look at, will state that what you are doing now is illegal. Anyhow to end this on a fantastic note why do you all put your name to each comment, better still write a letter of complaint to Dewar so that they can handle your 'issues'. Just because one can not take being dismissed for services not done that does not give anyone right to write statements that are not correct. I do hope that each and every one of you understands the legal system and of course karma.

Well, disclosures only work if the work is of a legal nature.  Scams are not covered by a disclosure.
We have all already written to Louisa at least twice and she has decided not to respond. (I sent mine recorded).
Haha! Services not done?  Are you kidding. Some of us were ill after BINTM exhibition cos she'd worked us so hard without adequate break times not to mention the stream of abuse that she dished out to staff for no reason.

came accross this thread and I know all about that "studio" its really just a sham, and run by people that have no morales at all.  

My friends worked there for weeks and never got paid,disgusting, as well as many other staff members, the company is a scam and you should definately stay clear and if you are approached by them contact the TSA or AMA.

 

My friend saw so many models get ripped off as the staff had to sell stupid photo packages that were awful quality and just taken in an emptyroom. The owner has failed companies in the past so is known in the industry to stay clear of.

 

This company have an awful reputation so stay away and tell anyone who has been contacted to do the same.

 

 Sham !!!!!

I met Louisa and the company in the summer and it was extremelly difficult working with the terrible conditions of ripping people off, she tried lots of times not to pay me but I eventually got paid and then when I went to leave she cancelled my cheque!

well, I worked there and I got invited for a "free test shoot" and at no time from when they invited me to me leaving the studio after a few hours a week later did they mention that I had to pay for the photos...the only time I realised was when I got the email a couple of days later.  McDonalds don't say, come in come in, eat for free, then charge you before you leave, they put the prices up on show because THAT is how you legally run a business where people must pay for products.  Also they promise people work and put them up on their website under a heading called: models.  These people do not get work and IF they do, they do NOT get paid.  You say you have been to the studio more than once...please clarify.

Absolutley a scam. They put out calls, pretending to be casting and then when you turn up, its basically a 'buy your own pictures event'. They are not an agancy. Just a photo studio trying to rip people off. I would highly reccomend avoiding.

I feel for the young kids that think they are being discovered, who are having to deal with this kind of Daylight Robbery.

This is the same message that was put on the post above.  This is obviously a staff member copying and pasting in an attempt to save their back.   And it is a SCAM if you ask people to "come to a casting for BINTM exhibition and when you get there what you are actually doing is taking their pictures, charging them for it then saying that you want them to do promo work for your studio at the exhibition then NOT paying them." Thousands of people went to the exhibition and hundreds were P***ed off with the way that you treated them.

I know that they do not get paid because I worked there.
I know the ins and outs of a company - I did business management and my parents owned businesses for over 20 years that I helped with.
Yes, I've personally experienced this.
I have explained it in detail on other posts.
I'll tell you my name if you'll tell me yours....fair trade, I think.
Well, we are trying to build an awareness of the true nature of Dewar Studios as many people are being left more than 1000GBP out of pocket because this woman has promised them money to work for her for months and then given them a cheque that bounced - we're talking 14hour days sometimes.
It doesn't really waste my time and energy, I write about it when I have the time and it is a cause that I have been effected by, if you were effected by cancer, you may want to post in cancer forums, this is the same sort of thing.
I have about 3 jobs so I have plenty other things to do lol.
We are taking legal actions as well, they have been reported to all the right authorities and people will be claiming their money back through the courts.
I don't find anything that myself and others have said as "silly" - they are just merely part of a community of people who have been hoodwinked by Louisa Dewar and they are expressing their anger and frustration in a calm and reasoned way.
Why is this a "silly" website?
Who's time are we wasting exactly? Only you sound like this is personally effecting you so what's your stake in this?

Hi, we are here to contest any untruths about Louisa and her company Dewar Studios.  I don't think the posts are coming from the same people so telling them to stop isn't really fair.

This is meant to be a forum for people affected by Louisa Dewar and Dewar studios, the notorious scam running in Central London, not some sort of chilidish banter, seriously all of you grow the hell up and stay professional.

The fact of the matter is : Louisa Dewar has insulted, assulted and robbed poor innocent people, no one cares what else, obviously someone who can do something like that is a complete nutcase, everyone knows she is dangerous she has a string of failed companies that all pose as photo scams, she has no business ethics and her photography is shocking to say the least.

I was nearly infact about to go into buisness with Louisa Dewar and Dewar studio and I can reveal what I seen what utterly shocking in terms of business, her treatemnet of satff, the lack of funds, business knowledge, her flirtaious and inappropraite behaviour towards clients and her constant lies proved to me, a person of status in this industry, that Louisa Dewar knows nothing about running a company.

I know of several companies that Louisa owes money to as well as all the staff who are owed thousands of pounds in wages, although some are unable to take legal action, as her contract of work, is non existent.

She is an extremelly crafty individual and I think if you are reading all of these horrible but accurate reviews online Louisa you should swallow your pride and pay the many people you owe money to, only then can you PERHAPS try and rebuild the empire you have now lost.

obviously they are a scam just look at their website, its out of date, unprofessional and pictures of celebrities that Dewar studios dont own the copyright of, another thing they have clearly stole!!

 

Can I also say that I worked there for one day last year and the owner is VERY scary, she dresses in the most inappropriate manner for a manager or what ever she is and screams at all the staff that were working there, she would also ask that the female staff dressed "trendy" with skirts and heels, that is against all regulations in a work place hence why I didnt stay  longer than a day but that was enough to see what I seen and the stories almost reduced me to tear !!

 

I know she is known in the industry to stay clear of and with the amount of replies on this thread word has clearly spread
